Parenting for the Launch Book Review and Giveaway

It’s that time of year when high school and college graduation announcements arrive in our mailboxes and social media feeds. What an exciting time as we get to honor and celebrate friends and family who are about to launch their precious child into the real world.

Few transitions bring as much joy, tears and anxiety to parents as when their children graduate from high school and head off into the “real world.” It’s a strange concoction of emotions that is one part reflection (the memories), one part conviction (did we do everything we could?) and one part wonder (how will they do?).

This is exactly what compelled authors Dennis Trittin and Arlyn Lawrence to write their book Parenting for the Launch-Raising Teens to Succeed in the Real World. Their book is a roadmap to help bring clarity to your parenting goals and offer direction and strategies to achieve them.

Are you preparing today for the upcoming launch of your child?

Parenting-For-The-Launch-Book-Dennis-Trittin

Parenting for the Launch is directed toward the parent and gives a global framework for how to approach and execute the launch. What I Wish I Knew at 18, on the other hand, is messaged directly to the teen. It has the nuts and bolts of the successful principles you’ll want to communicate before your son or daughter leaves home.

In these books, you’ll learn to prepare your child for key life decisions, build an enduring relationship and move confidently as a parent from the driver to the passenger seat.

A friend introduced me to Dennis’ first book What I wish I Knew at 18, as they knew I was writing my book on a similar message of parenting from the end. Dennis and I connected on Twitter and were able to get together recently in Arizona to chat about his books and how parents can begin to prepare for the launch of their child now. (See there are some positives of social media!)

In Parenting for the Launch, you will find strategies that will help you prepare your teen to soar into adulthood- to parent with purpose and to let go with confidence.

Want to win your own Parenting for the Launch/What I Wish I Knew at 18 combo? Leave a comment below on why you need these books NOW and be entered to win. TWO lucky readers will be drawn at random on May 18 to win their very own copies of Dennis Trittin‘s books. Entrants must be a US resident to win.

My husband and I had 4 kids in 5 years and now they are all teenagers. It is overwhelming with so many activities pulling us in different directions. I want so much for my kids to succeed as adults, but I wonder if I am teaching them well and if they are learning what they need to know to make it in the real world. I am looking forward to reading both of your books.

Looks to be a great resource. Mother, grandmother and retired teacher, I am thrilled you have written these. Of course, if I am chosen, I will pass them along to one of my kids with children. Thank you.

I am a social worker working in a parent support program. I would love these books for new strategies for my parents who struggle with their teens many of whom are from disadvantaged families with complicating factors like mental health, drug use and domestic violence that impact their parenting and their confidence to parent.

I would love to read these books! I feel I am floundering as a parent even though I try to use positive reinforcement and such. My daughter still has all of the 14-15 year old worries and I really want to help her, but have trouble because if no one to base it on. Books gave to help!

Yes!! These books are just the kind of books I LOVE to read. I have one home this summer from her first year of college and I still feel like we’re addressing new things or re-visiting issues that are more real for her now. There’s still so much to share with her and also new ways to love on our 19 year old. More ideas would be sooo appreciated! And the 18 book-we has an “18 list” that my husband and I reviewed every few months and intentionally took the time to teach the things on list. Many of our list came in every day teachable moments but there were several that wouldn’t have been done if we hadn’t created the list on purpose (ie: getting on roof and how to safely walk on it :-). We still have a 12 year old at home so many things on the list are coming up. I’d love to see what we may have missed and learn more! Anyway thank you for this opportunity!!! Would LOVE to read them NOW! 🙂

I have a son who is halfway done with high school. These 2 books would help give clarity to what I’ve been trying to teach all along . Nice to know there is a book directed to the 18 yr old going off into the world. Excited to know there is insight coming from a book written just for my teen (who may not fully listen to what mom is saying. ) Thankyou for making these 2 wonderful books possible for parents and their teens!! Both books would offer great perspective for us both . Would love to have them!!

I have a sophomore and I admit that I need to be more intentional with preparing this young woman for the world ahead. I also realize that I need to be implementing more purposeful conversation with my 6th grade daughter to equip her! Things have certainly changed since I went to college and even began married life. While there is technology that helps alleviate some responsibilities, there are many things that young people are going to be doing and that they will still need self-discipline and self-motivation to be successful and even to function as a healthy, productive member of society! I have always prayed our girls would be world-changers, but I don’t feel confident that I have done all that I need to in helping them be ready to do that!

I want to win the Combo ( What I wish I knew at 18 and Parenting for the Launch ) because I am 73 raising a 15 year old granddaughter. I raised 5 sons mostly as a single mom ( same dad of all 5 ) but he passed away in 97 ) anyway I have been trying to be a mother/father/grandmother to my granddaughter whose parents abandoned her when she was 5. I have spoiled her and now I realize how wrong that was. I pray it is not too late to train her to be a responsible , independent adult. She is a good girl, makes good grades, good choices in friends, and for the most part doesn’t give me any trouble. But she is not prepared to go out on her own. I need help. I need to be more disciplined, intentional on teaching her how to make it in this world. Help!!!!!! Thank you for sending me this email. I assume you got my email from the Screnager Seminar. Praise God.

Hi! I had my first child at 19 and new nothing about parenting. I totally coddled her and I feel like I did an okay job, but I did not prepare her for the launch. I am now raising a 13 year old son and see the importance of launching him. I have made steps – washing his own clothes, cooking, alarm clock, but would like to learn more to prepare him for the real world.

Just read your most recent post and I ADORE your honesty! Such a relief for moms to hear what everyone is thinking and feeling. I have an almost 14yo and see the end of the tunnel for his time under our roof so thinking of “preparing” him for the future.
